Photos from the Steampunk Fete in Queens on January 17, 2011
The Steampunk Fete in Queens on January 16, 2011 was hosted by Dan and Mary Holzman-Tweed and organized on Facebook. The Holzman-Tweeds are the people behind the monthly Steampunk Picnics in Prospect Park, and they kindly rented and decorated a room for us to have a winter picnic indoors. There was a table of treats brought by everyone, hot cider and tea, vintage games, a little mandolin-playing, juggling, and much good conversation. Below are some mostly candid-photos from the event. See the rest of them at my Photobucket album. By now you might know how much I love to photograph steampunks and write up these little recaps. Perhaps I have even ambushed you with my digital camera while you were milling about or trying to enjoy a spot of tea. If so, thanks for letting me take your photo and share it on LiveJournal and Facebook. As always, contact me through LiveJournal if you want me to remove, re-caption, or otherwise change your photos, or if you want a high-res copy of your own photo.

Many thanks to Dan and Mary for hosting us and making everyone feel welcome, and for everyone who came out for being so friendly and generally awesome so that even a shy person like myself feels comfortable talking with such fascinating people.

Group shot taken by me, minus a few people who left early and the photographer, of course. Left to right, standing: Samuel, Aaron, Jocelyn, Catherine, Adrienne, Sean, Hilary, Kat, Dan, Tristan, Morgana, Kevin, and Kenneth. Left to right, seated: Nora, Diana, Miriam, Noam, and Mary.

Our gracious hosts Dan and Mary looking splendid.

I cropped out a fine-looking row of steampunks from a group shot that didn't make the cut because too many people closed their eyes - it's hard to get a group shot with everyone looking good. From left to right: Catherine, Adrienne, Sean, Hilary, and Kat.

Dan and Mary decorated the room with vintage picnicking and tea accessories, small rugs, floor pillows, and tapestries, and provided vintage games for the guests.

I'm not sure what is happening here, but Diana and Jocelyn seem to having a good time.

A proper photo of Miriam's lovely smile - I gave her fair warning this time - with Rob Holzman and Tristan peering in the background.

The way Mary was sitting and the splendid colors of her clothing are right out of a pre-Raphaelite painting, so I had some fun with Photoshop, transplanting her from the group shot to this painting of Ophelia by Arthur Hughes.

Sean juggling oranges most proficiently and astonishing me with his skill.

The dashing Samuel and Kat looking smart in their well-tailored clothing.

The Toglia family - no moue from Tristan in this photo! If you are wondering how Tristan got to be so smart, have a chat with his charming parents.

Kevin and Ray look like something's about to go down. If this were an old-timey saloon, I'd duck behind the bar.

Aaron and Jocelyn drove from Connecticut to attend the Fete and to check out some of the merchandise at the ginormous Times Square Toys R' Us.

I had to sequence Noam from all four group shots because his expressions are so hilarious. Actually the last one's kind of freaky.

Mary again, because she looks great in every photo!

Great site, very impressive.

That looks like so much fun. Nora reminds me of Rose from Dr. Who. Sean and Tristan should pass the hat so they can buy some flashy juggling equipment. I'm doing research for Boomtown this weekend, and yours are the only Steampunk jugglers I've found so far. I learned to juggle with oranges as well.

Thanks - it was a rather long time ago. There are a few steampunk jugglers out there... hope you connected with them.
